The Best of Amazon: Swim Cover Ups!
Excited to share this reader request today: swim cover ups from Amazon!
Each cover up is less than $25 and I think I’ve manage to hit all of the things one could want in a cover up – I’ve got an embroidered kaftan that will hit those Mediterranean vibes (even if you’re at the kiddie pool), a tee shirt dress that will pack like a dream, an eyelet dress that’s easy to throw on, a striped midi length that will take you from the YMCA to a no-kids-please pool party and the Mrs. Roper printed number of my dreams.
I’ve tried each on for you and am sharing my sizes, fit notes and thoughts below and you can watch video try on with my first impressions on my Instagram story highlights under “Swim”.
The swimsuit I’m wearing is linked in this post and I’m 5’9″, a size 8 and a DD cup.
Striped Kaftan
One Size Fits All
The Best of Amazon: Swim Cover Ups!
This striped Kaftan may have been my fave of the day. The deep v neck is flattering but also has a button (that I’ve left unbuttoned) that would keep things more modest if that’s you speed. The length is great for coverage and the sleeves give you a little room to breathe. The material is lightweight without being super see through (keep in mind that I’m wearing a black swim suit underneath). You could also knot the hem for a little styling action thanks to the side vents. I purposefully left the wrinkles in all of the cover ups for one reason: travel. If you are planning to travel and want to know how these bad boys will do in a suitcase, you’ll be able to see in these pics. I started to steam one or two of the cover ups and then realized that’s not the kind of life I want to lead, so if you’re not the kind of girl who steams a cover up on vacation, pay close attention to what looks extra creased. With that said, the wrinkles in this particular cover up will fall out during wear and it should travel fine-ish.
Sky Blue Menswear Inspired Cover Up
Wearing a Large
True life: I love this cover up. It’s soft, has that sexy sort of I’m-wearing-my-husband’s-shirt vibe and has great rear coverage (it’s longer in the back). It comes in a ton of colors and is a great price point. But the wrinkles are strong with this one. I honestly don’t mind the wrinkles because no one at the YMCA has time to judge me while keeping their toddlers afloat, but if you’re headed to a chic resort full of wrinkle free people let’s choose another from this list, k?
Floral Kaftan
One Size Fits All
Hello, navy embroidered kaftan, I love you. Yes, that floral pattern is actually embroidered onto the kaftan, which for less than $25, feels pretty baller to me. I am in love with the feeling of this cover up – very ’70’s Palm Beach meets I don’t want to get sun on my arms kind of vibes. This cover up is ankle length on me and would be perfect to throw on over your one piece on your way to the Tiki Bar during quiet rest.
Mrs. Roper Kaftan
One Size Fits All
This girl is a keeper! I am so here for the floral pattern, sheer, easy to pack fabric, deep V and collar neckline. The fabric will be perfect for my girls who worry about being too hot in a heavier weight cover up and while it’s sheer, it doesn’t expose the goods. Go ahead and add this one to cart ladies, she’s the real deal.
Blue Tee Shirt Dress
Wearing a Large
Sorry this is such a rough pic of me friends, my selfie game was getting weak buy the end of this try on. So, this dress. This dress was everywhere last year and I avoided it because I didn’t want to believe the hype – but this year I gave and I’ll say that I’m pleasantly surprised. The fabric is soft, bouncy, tee shirt fabric that will never wrinkle and will always be comfy. The dress can be knotted or left as is and comes in a ton of colors. This particular version is a v neck with a detail strap across the back and has pockets. It is a real dress, not just a cover up, so it’s perfect for travel/saving room in your suitcase or for bouncing between pool and life, as we do in the Summer.
Print Tee Shirt Dress
Wearing a Large
This printed dress is super similar to the navy above but does not have pockets or the detailing in the back. The length also happens to be a bit shorter, so if you’re petite this may be a better option. The material is the same super soft cotton and will absolutely travel well.
Eyelet Cover Up
Wearing a
This little number didn’t make the post graphic thanks to an interesting selection of listing photos but I love how sweet this dress is. The lace up neck and eyelet top are cute details and the shape is really flattering (as in, it doesn’t cling to anything, anywhere). If you’re busty, I’d be sure to size up in this one, as it does have a seam along the bust that felt a bit tight to me. If you’re looking for wrinkle free travel, this most likely won’t be the one, but for me, she’s a keeper!
Bonus!
This lace cover up was a huge hit last year when I brought her along on a family vacation – for the price, the quality is outstanding and it packs like a dream. Pro Tip: trim off those ties right at the seam, they do unravel and cheapen the look of an otherwise gorgeous cover up.
