I’m so excited to share this design project with you today because 1. I love seeing a design come to life and 2. you know and love the family who lives in this pretty new space!
Almost six months ago, my friend Christina of Carolina Charm reached out to me for advice on renovating her kitchen. They were ready to swing the sledgehammer and demo was literally days away but she was getting the renovation jitters. There is just so much that has to be decided during a renovation and that learning curve is steep on your first go, so I absolutely knew where she was coming from (you can see our very first renovation here). I told her I would be happy to help in any way that I could and the next thing I knew she was taking me on a date to pick out countertops at the stone yard. Ultimately, she asked if I was open to whipping up a design board focusing on all the fun stuff: the design details that pull it all together and I was thrilled to design with someone else’s budget!

Here’s a peak at the before, the rest of the before space can be seen here:

And here’s the original plan that I presented to Christina:

The layout of the kitchen was already decided on and in progress so I really got to concentrate on my fave part of the process, the little details that turn a house into a home. Christina wanted an all white kitchen with classic lines for her husband, kid friendly seating options and a little surprise at the wet bar. She really let me run with ideas and I think I threw them for a loop with my chandelier choice, but they trusted me and, I won’t lie, I think I nailed it! Christina took a video of the chandelier coming out of the box and their reaction to seeing in person was amazing.

Shop dining tables:

We worked in soft natural tones in the woven jute rug, the light wood framed family photos on the wall and woven bar stool seats. We kept lines clean with a deep, square sink that mirrors the square shapes of the wet bar across from it and went for oversized, clean lined pulls and classic knobs in both stainless and satin nickel.
Christina and her family love the space and I’m so honored that they asked me to be apart of designing such a special place (and their first renovation!) in their home. You can see the entire project on Christina’s blog, Carolina Charm and in a gorgeous feature on the Charlotte Agenda. Thank you to Laura Sumrak for the stunning photo!
