Hey ya’ll!

We had the best weekend. I honestly can’t even guess how many football games we watched between Saturday and Sunday Funday. And sadly, I also can’t even begin to guess how many calories I consumed between the two days either. But a girl’s gotta have fun right?!

On Saturday, we traveled a few minutes up the road to the home of the University of Maine Black Bears. And how did we end up somewhere besides a Clemson anything?
Well, a local BBQ restaurant, Moe’s Original BBQ (NOT to be confused with the No Meat joint in Winterport), is owned by a family from Tennessee. Being Southern Transplants, they thought it would be a fab idea to keep a Southern Guest Book behind their register.
If they hear an accent they recognize (or you toss out a “ya’ll” or two), they pull out the Southern Guest Book and welcome you to Maine. We were super excited to receive an invite to their First Annual Southern Transplants Tailgate as the Black Bears took on the Delaware Blue Hens.

We knew that the Southern Transplants would have a special tailgate spot, but we had no idea that the UMaine Athletic Director would plant our tent inside of the stadium!

We were welcomed by the smell of Moe’s BBQ and sweet babies running around in Roll Tide hair bows and rompers. It was like the South had moved North and found us in our tiny corner of Maine.

In true Southern form, every single family brought something to share – we feasted on homemade hot boiled peanuts, pecan pies, blackberry cobbler, pimento cheese dip and endless tailgate snacks that you know have be perfected 10 times over.

We were told that we could dress in our home team colors or represent UMaine on their home turf – of course, in this family, we only wear Orange and Purple – and it was fun to wear our “UMaine Fan On Loan from….” name tags.
Believe it or not, we met couples from Tennessee, Atlanta, North Myrtle Beach, Raleigh and Florida.

We lucked out in that UMaine kicked off at the same time as Clemson, so the timing worked out as best as it could….Justin kept his eye on the clock and we said our goodbyes just in time to make it home for Clemson kickoff. Thankfully, we were with a bunch of Southerners who understood our need to skip out early to be home to watch the Tigers play.

Thanks to Moe’s Original BBQ and U Maine for their hospitality – it really was a slice of home.

This is a crazy week for us – they guys are working a billion hours and late nights – and on Thursday we head South to celebrate a wedding of dear family friends.
Hope ya’ll have a fab day!
